Importance of Shri Krishna Daan Leela :
First and foremost, it’s essential to understand that daan here doesn’t mean Donation; rather, it signifies Tax. When all the gopis used to take their homemade milk, yogurt, butter, etc., to offer to King Kansa as Tax, Thakurji Shri Krishna intervened.
He told them that all this milk and butter rightfully belongs to the children of this place before it reaches King Kansa. After all, these products come from our cows, which we tend. Therefore, you must give them to us as Tax.
Here the Bhav is Gopis really wants to have a darshan of Shri Krishna. But the Materialistic world’s duties do not allowing them fully. So When Shri Krishna performs this kind of Leelas Gopis feels eternal joy.
The whole Year Gopis goes to Nandalaya to offer butter to Shri Krishna. But During this Leela Prabhu Himself comes out and showers graces on Gopis by Such Amazing eternal Leela.
Shri Krishna performed the daan Leela at various places in the land of Vraja, including Vrindavan, Danaghati Sankari-Khor, Gahvar Van, Govardhan’s path, Kadamabkhadi, Panaghat, and along the Yamuna riverbank. He bestowed his love upon the devotees through these acts.
One such place is Sankari-Khor, situated between Barsana and Chiksoli. Here, Lord Krishna requested the gopis selling milk and yogurt to give him some as TAX. When they refused, Krishna playfully broke their earthen pots.
Even today, this Leela comes alive on the thirteenth day after Radhashtami during the festival. The rich history of Radha and Krishna’s divine leelas can be felt in every nook and corner of Braj.
When the gopis would come, they were stopped, and Krishna would ask them for butter. If they didn’t give it willingly, He would break their earthen pots, and the butter would be distributed among the sakhas.
Today, Krishna’s daan leela begins, lasting for the next twenty days, during which He engages in this divine act with the gopis.
Nandakumar Prabhu has been receiving offerings from the gopis in Vraja for these twenty days. He has accepted TAX from the gopis based on three qualities of Respective Gopis: satvik, rajasic, and tamasic.
- Satvik Daan: With humility and affection, requests Gopis For TAX. This type of DAAN is considered satvik.
- Rajasic Daan: Involving debates or with an air of superiority, TAX is given. This DAAN falls under the rajasic category.
- Tamasic Daan: Despite reluctance and even forcefulness, TAX is taken. This is tamasic DAAN.
The devotees have beautifully described these three types of DAAN in the context of Krishna’s leelas. You can explore the Badi Daan Leela by Shri Hariray ji, available on our platform.
