In the pastoral lands of Vraj, the cowherd community holds the ‘Gau Vansa‘ (bovine family) in the highest regard, considering Cows their true wealth. The significance of cattle, especially cows, is paramount in Vraj.
It is for this reason that Prabhu Shri Krishna, along with His circle of cowherd friends,is traditionally adorning the cows. And then Worship of Cows takes place. Symbolizing the deep respect and care for these sacred animals.
This practice underscores the cultural and spiritual ethos of Vraj, where cows are esteemed as a source of prosperity and well-being.
गोधन पूजा करके गोविंद सब ग्वालन पहेरावत l

Today, Yashoda Maiya performs a sacred ritual by bathing and worshiping the idol of Goddess Lakshmi. Followed by placing it before Prabhu. She also cleanses the ornaments that adorn her beloved child.
This act gives rise to the tradition of singing verses like ‘Dhan Dhovat Nandarani’ After Mangala on this day. Furthermore, the next four days hold a special significance for the practice of offering lamps (Deepdaan) in Vraj.
Therefore, at Evening, the entire region of Vraj is adorned with lit lamps, signifying the start of a luminous celebration.

प्यारी अपनो धन जो संभारे ॥ वारंवार देख नयननसों लेजु हृदयमें धारे ॥ १ ॥
रुचिसों सरस संभारत पियकों आभुषण बहु सोहे | आगम निरख दिवारीको मन द्वारकेशको मोहे ॥ २ ॥
Bhavarth :
Sri Radharani is tenderly cherishing her beloved treasure, Sri Krishna, holding Him close to her heart with utmost care. She repeatedly gazes upon His divine form with her eyes, imprinting His image deep within her heart.
The adornments of desires and wishes in her mind are being lovingly bestowed upon the Lord. The ornaments are graced by His presence, enhancing their beauty. As the arrival of Diwali approaches, Dwarkeshji fills hearts with joy witnessing the Prabhu Lila.
